11/17/2014 Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

Well, I’m not sure the chickens are appreciating their first-ever snow, but they’ve gotten a bit lucky…the plastic bird netting, along with an evergreen tree that is over the run has held up most of the snow that they would otherwise have to shuffle through.

The straw bales stacked around the coop for insulation also serve as a nesting perch under the front roof eave.  Faith had to come out from there to see what treats I brought this morning.  You can see how the netting above the coop is holding up the snow.

I brought them out a warm oatmeal-sunflower seed-apple mash, expecting them to be hating the snow.  Ever-fearless Dawn is always the first up to the plate to see what’s new.

All in all, their run seems kind of cozy, and they certainly aren’t suffering with having to trudge through several inches of snow – at least not for their first experience in the stuff.

I’m sure that, for now, they’d just like it very much if Carley would leave them to enjoy their breakfast treat in peace.

Sorry, Chicks.  We can’t all have things our way!
