6+ Weeks Old – second field trip

The littles aren’t so little anymore! And, to look closely at them, I don’t see anyone with a crop starting off darker or larger than anyone else, either, so I’m hoping that means I’ve got all females this time around. I actually wouldn’t have minded at least one male in the event that I eventually want to start hatching my own eggs. I don’t know if I can expect Rupert to take on such duties, and I don’t know what you would end up with, with a cross between an EE roo and either a Barred Rock or Buff Orpington hen.

I was able to give them some more time out in the grass while I got the bedding changed in their box again. They seem to like it when I hold some chickweed for them to take from me. Eventually, they all started investigating the cage and the grass, but they mostly still came right up to the side of the cage I was holding the greens on and pluck them from my fingers. The Buffs were more adventurous than the Rocks, though a couple of the Rocks reached over to get their share.
